Ascension Chapter 2As the large double doors of Evnae opened, a groan akin to that of a dying monster vibrated well into the ground Amon stood on. Gus seemed unaffected by this, being a visitor familiar to this city. He merely stood there and hacked mucus from his throat. On the other hand, Amon felt his hackles rise. There was something quite unnerving about the gates' opening. It was like the gate of the abyss where he could not see what laid beyond. Inside, once the gates were opened wide enough, Amon saw nothing but a red haze, casting a warm overcast over the entire city.
Gus spat loudly and then wheezed. "Heh, whatta friggin' greenhorn." The insult was, of course, directed to Amon, Gus saw him stare at the opening gates like deer that just realized that a hunter was about to shoot it.
"'Ey, Gus. Who's that you have there? New boy?" The larger of the two guards, dressed in tanned hides and worn cloth overlaid with armor, asked the gassy trader.
